“Fighting poverty of food and character, one child at a time.”
Despite our unwavering commitment, as NOMAGOM we face serious obstacles in our mission to uplift vulnerable children. Here are some of the pressing challenges we confront everyday:
NOMAGOM relies on firewood to prepare meals for the children. With no access to gas stoves, cooking becomes a labor-intensive task, especially during rainy seasons. The smoke from open fires also poses health risks to both children and staff.
Sometimes when the center has run out of firewood, we kindly request that each child bring a small amount of firewood from home to contribute to the cooking needs of the day.
The borehole that once supplied water is now unreliable because it does not provide us with sufficient water. The pressure pump is damaged, and helpers must fetch water manually using buckets, transporting it with wheelbarrows.
The center lacks basic flooring and ceiling installations. Children are exposed to dust, and during rainy seasons, the noise from corrugated iron roofing makes communication nearly impossible. These conditions hinder learning and comfort.
The center has begun an indoor toilets project to improve sanitation. However, due to a shortage of funds, the project is still stuck.
The hall used for practice session is not big enough to accommodate all the children when each group is practicing their performance. It forces other groups to go and practice in the old shacks which were utilized as the main building for this center when it first started, they are in a state of collapse
The kitchen structure is deteriorating. Built with aging wood, it’s at risk of collapse. This not only threatens food preparation but also the safety of everyone involved. We also don't have enough tables that can be utilized for food preparation and serving.
NOMAGOM does not have adequate facilities to store food safely. This leads to spoilage of food. We also don't have enough tables for food preparation and serving.
Without proper refrigeration when it comes to preparing meals that include meat, preparation has to be done the same day it is cooked.
NOMAGOM continues its mission of caring for children through the kind support of the Department of Social Development, whose contributions make it possible to provide daily meals for the children in need.
However, when the number of children surpasses the available budget, NOMAGOM’s Executive Members humbly step in, contributing from their own personal savings to ensure that no child is left unfed. This act of sacrifice reflects their deep commitment to the organization’s values and the well-being of every child.
In such moments, the priority remains clear—to make sure every child receives a meal. While it sometimes becomes difficult to maintain a perfectly balanced diet due to limited resources, NOMAGOM strives to ensure that love, care, and dignity are never compromised.
At NOMAGOM Drop-In Center, sustainability means building long-term solutions that nourish, empower, and uplift. Our goal is to create self-sufficient systems that not only feed the children we serve but also generate resources to expand our impact. These plans reflect our commitment to dignity, health, and hope.
🌍 This sustainability plan has not yet been achieved.
However, with the support of generous donors, we can
turn this long-term vision into reality and build
lasting, self-sustaining solutions for the children we serve— while enabling us to
expand our impact to other communities in need. 💚
Through community farming, NOMAGOM aims to grow vegetables and grains that directly feed the children. This initiative promotes food security and reduces dependency on external donations. The surplus harvest will be sold locally, and the income reinvested to purchase additional food and farming tools.
With donated dairy cows, NOMAGOM can produce fresh milk for the children. Milk is a vital source of calcium and protein, essential for growth and bone development. Any surplus milk will be sold to local vendors, generating income to support the feeding program.
With egg-laying chickens, NOMAGOM can provide protein-rich meals to the children. Eggs are versatile, nutritious, and easy to store. Surplus eggs will be sold to nearby communities, creating a revenue stream to support kitchen upgrades and food purchases.
NOMAGOM Drop-In Center’s mission to combat malnutrition and nurture character aligns powerfully with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) . By fostering food security, education, and dignity, NOMAGOM contributes to a global movement for a better future.
By generating income from surplus produce and empowering communities with skills, NOMAGOM plans to reduce dependency and build pathways out of poverty — echoing SDG 1’s call to end poverty in all its forms.
Through farming, milk, and poultry initiatives, NOMAGOM aims to ensure children receive nutritious meals daily. These efforts directly support SDG 2 by ending hunger, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Every contribution helps NOMAGOM Drop-In Center nourish children, uplift communities, and build a future free from malnutrition and poverty of character. Choose how you'd like to make a difference:
